We work with a wide range of vintage and sustainable textiles that all require different kinds and levels of care. We cover our most frequently used materials here, but please check the tag inside your garment for complete care instructions for your specific piece.
QUILTS / QUILT TOPS
Quilts are one-of-a-kind, vintage, and the materials range from quilt to quilt. The number one thing to remember about a quilt is that it is handmade, so gentle treatment is a must! Hand wash or cold gentle cycle with a mild detergent, and hang or lay flat to dry. Iron as needed. Every material on earth has a shelf life (and vintage has already lived some of that), so infrequent cleaning and spot cleaning are recommended to prolong the life of your quilt clothes.
The instructions for wool are short and sweet: dry clean only. You can also spot clean with a cold damp cloth, rubbing gently until the spot is gone. No detergents or soaps.
These pieces were originally tablecloths and therefore designed to get dirty. They can be washed and dried in a machine. They are, however, also vintage, so we recommend cold gentle cycles and tumble drying on low if you can. If there is a stubborn stain then by all means use a little bleach or oxyclean, but keep in mind that products like these wear down materials faster, thereby giving your cutwork piece a shorter life. Iron as needed.
