Afterpay and Shop Pay FAQ


Shop Pay helps you check out faster when you’re shopping by automatically filling in your saved payment and shipping information when you enter your email address at checkout.

The next time you go to check out, you are taken to the order review page. When you click Authorize purchase, you will receive a unique 6-digit code in a text message. Then, you're prompted to enter the code on the checkout page. After they enter the code, the order is processed.

When you opt in to Shop Pay, Shopify saves the following securely encrypted information for your future purchases:

  • Shipping address.
  • Billing address.
  • Credit card details.
  • Mobile phone number.

You can save up to five shipping addresses and up to five credit cards in Shop Pay. Your mobile phone number is used for SMS verification of your account. View Privacy Policy.


You can opt in to Shop Pay when you check out from a participating store. Steps:

  1. When you check out from a participating store, select Save my information for a faster checkout.
  2. Enter the required information.
  3. Complete your order. You see a notification on the order status page that confirms that your information is saved to your Shop Pay account.

You can instead opt in to Shop Pay immediately after you place an order in a participating store by selecting the option from the order status page.


To use Shop Pay, customers need to:

  • Activate their cards prior to use, if applicable.
  • Be able to make online purchases.
  • Have billing information that matches their bank on file. For example, the zip code needs to match the billing address.
  • Have a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or another card that you support.
  • Use a supported debit or credit card. For example, some prepaid cards aren't supported.

If you are using Shop Pay Installments, then Capital One cards aren't accepted.


You can opt out of Shop Pay anytime, and check out from your favorite stores using another option. To opt out of Shop Pay, enter your mobile number in the opt-out form, and then click Submit request. If you're paying for an order using Shop Pay installments, then you can opt out once your payments are complete.

Opting out of Shop Pay means your phone number and stored data will be deleted, and you won’t receive verification codes by SMS. You can still use Shop to track your orders and follow stores.

If you don’t want to use Shop to track your orders anymore, you can also deactivate your Shop account.



Shop now. Pay later. No interest.

That means you pay for your purchase in four equal installments, every two weeks. Always zero interest, never additional fees when you pay on time.

The only fees are for late payments. To help you ensure on time payments and responsible spending, Afterpay will email your payment schedule and send notifications so there are no surprises. 


Afterpay is seamless at checkout, simply create your account and complete your purchase. No long application forms, you’ll know if you’re approved instantly and your order will ship as it would with any other form of payment.

After your order is processed, you can log into your Afterpay account to view your orders, make payments and manage account details.


What is Afterpay? 

Afterpay is a service that allows you to make purchases now and pay for them in 4 payments made every 2 weeks without any interest. 

How do I use Afterpay? 

Simply shop online or in-store (where available) and add items to your shopping bag and checkout as normal. At the checkout choose Afterpay as your payment method.  First-time customers will need to register with Afterpay and provide payment details, as usual, returning customers simply log in to make their purchase. It’s that easy! 

Please note that all items in your shopping bag must be eligible for Afterpay. A minimum purchase amount may apply and you must meet additional eligibility requirements to qualify. 

Where can I use Afterpay? 

Afterpay can only be applied to purchases made on the retailer's website or in-store (where available). 

Can I use Afterpay if I'm an international customer? 

Right now, Installments by Afterpay is only available to customers in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Some restrictions apply. 

How does the payment schedule work? 

All customers are required to make their first payment at the time of purchase, with the remaining three payments deducted every two weeks from your chosen payment method. If you choose to make additional payments before your scheduled pay dates, you may do so through your Afterpay account.  

You can log in to your Afterpay account to view your payment schedule and make a payment before the due date if you choose to do so. 

What if I can’t pay an Afterpay installment? 

If funds are not available or you otherwise do not make your payment when it is due, late fees may apply. Click here for complete terms.

When will my items be delivered if I use Afterpay?

Afterpay orders are delivered as per our standard shipping time frame after you complete your order online.

Is there a limit to how much I can spend on a single transaction? 

Yes, transaction value limits apply to purchases made on the retailer website using Afterpay. 

How do I return or exchange an item purchased using Afterpay? 

If you have changed your mind, you can return your Afterpay purchase in-store or by mail for a refund. Please check that your return or exchange meets our Return  Policy here. Afterpay will be notified of your return and will process the appropriate refunds. Please do not return your purchase to Afterpay.
